Medications

A lot of medications actually CAUSE weight gain or PREVENT weight loss*. We are always updating our list of bad meds, which we’ll give you so you can talk to your doctor.*

Diabetes, Pre-Diabetes, and Insulin Resistance

Diabetes is a condition that prevents the body from properly using energy from food. It occurs when the pancreas does not produce insulin, or when the pancreas produces insulin, which is resisted by your body. Such insulin resistance causes weight gain and nearly guarantees diabetes down the road.*

Sleep Disorders

Either getting too little, or bad quality sleep has been associated with weight gain. Being overweight makes sleep worse, which then leads to more weight gain.*

High Cortisol

High cortisol keeps fat from metabolizing properly. Elevated cortisol levels could be high from stress, disease, or medications.*

Low Thyroid Function

Thyroid is the gas pedal of the body. Low thyroid leads to low metabolism. Being overweight inhibits thyroid function which causes you to be overweight.*

Low T

If your belly is bigger than your chest, or if you are always tired and fatigued, it might be low T. We look for low T, analyze causes, and treat it with either Testosterone boosting therapies or medications.

Menopause

Makes women more like men (nature is harsh).

PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)

Menstrual abnormalities, hirsutism (abnormal female hair growth), and difficulty controlling weight.

Sedentary Behaviors

Sitting for too long is actually very bad for you and causes weight gain.

JPO (Just Plain Overeating)

People do not control their portions like they did back in the 1950’s. We eat WAY more than prior generations.

Binge/Night Eating Disorders

A HUGE cause of weight gain.

Nocturnal Sleep Eating Disorder

Like sleep walking, but with food.

Your Friends

Studies have shown that you are nearly twice as likely to gain weight if one of your close friends does.*

Being Overweight

Being overweight leads to physiological changes, making people gain more weight and making it harder to lose.
